Melissa is a Professor of Migration Studies and Head of the Migration and Development Research group at the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance, Maastricht University and UNU-MERIT. She holds a PhD in Public Policy from Maastricht University. Melissa’s research focuses on the causes and consequences of migration with a focus on migration and development and migration policy and programming. Her work spans the globe working in the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. She has wide-ranging experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis as well as extensive experience in policy advice and analysis and working with policy-makers and practitioners.

Melissa’s responsibilities within MIGNEX include leadership of Work Package 7: Consequences (understanding how migration affects development processes), and development of methodology for assessing the development impacts of migration.
